  • SYMRISE PRODUCING NEWEST GENERATION OF EVOGLASS® FLAVORS AT TETERBORO FACILITY

Teterboro, New Jersey, July 27, 2009 – “From our state-of-the-art facility in Teterboro, New Jersey, we are now producing large scale supplies of Evoglass® encapsulated flavors, the Symrise brand of glass-type matrix extrusions,” announced Donna Rosa, Category Director, Symrise Flavor & Nutrition North America.

Humidity stable, excellent flavor intensity, dust free, long shelf life and locally manufactured

In addition to the advantage of local manufacturing, Ms Rosa cited the multiple benefits of Evoglass® as an alternative flavor delivery system. She pointed out that Evoglass® has a uniform particle size, 0.6 and 1mm, making it larger than spray dried flavors. This size, in addition to its water solubility, provides the functionality needed in dry beverage mixes. “The shelf life of Evoglass® flavors is outstanding,” she said, “up to four years for most flavors and as long as two years for citrus flavors. The glass-type matrix of Evoglass® allows for the creation of extremely oxygen-stable flavors that deliver excellent flavor intensity. The Evoglass® brand is dust free, with low odor. Evoglass® flavors can be made in any color or colorless.”

Needle-shaped Evoglass® for sugarless tea bags and other applications

Ms Rosa explained that there have been several generations of Evoglass®, progressively improving stability and functionality and expanding its applications. “The matrix of Evoglass® has steadily improved. Symrise has most recently developed a sugarless version and is now offering a new, needle-shaped Evoglass® for tea bags. The unique needle shape is ideally suited to tea bags because its form is similar to tea leaves. The Evoglass® line also features standard, sugar-free and needle-shaped products for a variety of fruit, mint and brown flavors,” Ms Rosa said.

Achieving superior product differentiation with Evoglass®

Ms Rosa expanded on how Evoglass® allows for product differentiation, creating visible color particles that provide exceptional eye appeal, a real advantage in tablets and hard candy products. She said, “There are specific benefits in using Evoglass® in these products. Sugarless Evoglass® is very stable to humidity, and resists color bleed in tablets. In healthcare products, the encapsulation helps prevent reactions between actives and flavor components. The benefits of using Evoglass® in hard candy are also significant. In hard candy processing, Evoglass® can withstand processing requirements, ensuring that the particles stay intact and maintain their visual appeal.”

The difference between Evoglass® and competitive products

While competitive products are made in batches, Ms Rosa reported that Evoglass® relies on a patented, continuous process. “Our proprietary encapsulation process involves less thermal stress, so that with Evoglass® technology, the intended flavor is well retained and extremely stable. No solvents are used in the Evoglass® process,” she said.

“The highly sophisticated technology found in Evoglass® and in our other encapsulation brands, Evogran® and Evocap®, overcome specific challenges in a myriad of applications. Our staff of application specialists across the range of food and beverage segments is available to work with customers to precisely achieve targeted taste and aroma profiles,” concluded Ms Rosa.
